Packaging Ebooks, Part 1

How to Create an Autorun CD

In this tutorial, you'll learn how to create an autorun CD for your ebook in three easy steps. Not only does it look neat when your ebook lanches automatically, but having a "hard" copy will also increase the perceived value of your product.

Your customers using slower internet connections will surely appreciate the extra service, especially if your ebook is packaged with several bonuses and large audio/video files.

Step 1

To create an autorun CD for ebooks created with an HTML compiler, start by opening Notepad located in the Start Menu Accessories.

Type or copy and paste the following code, replacing "MyEbook" with the file name of your ebook and "Icon" (optional) with the file name of a custom icon.

Click on File Save As...

Type in autorun.inf for the file name and save the file to your hard drive. You should now have something like this:

Step 2

Open the CD burning software of your choice and add your files. If you're asked what kind of project you would like to create, choose data disc or the default setting.

Step 3

Insert a blank CD-R into your drive and burn the files like you normally would. When the disc is complete, test it to make sure that it works properly.
